[image: image]City of Munich: "Migration to sustainable desktop
completed successfully"
The administration of the city of Munich in Germany has completed the
switch to the open source desktop, says Peter Hofmann, head of the
migration project last week Wednesday. The IT department is now securing
the strategy, to make sure it can be maintained by the city and to
sustainably support interactions with citizens, businesses and other public
authorities.
Hofmann, speaking at the Linux Tag conference in Berlin on 22 May, is
confident that the city's open source strategy can be maintained because it
is focused on sustainability.

[image: image]Ten years of open source in Portuguese town proves savings
and performance
The Portuguese municipality of Vieira do Minho has been using open source
software solutions everywhere, for more than a decade. These software
solutions saved the public administration thousands of euro. It resulted in
an IT system that fits the administration's needs perfectly. And, open
source has increased the efficiency of its public services, according to a
case study published on Joinup.
Budget planning has proved that open source has always been the best
solution for Vieira do Minho, the case study quotes Marco Candeias, a
senior municipal official.
