Fwd: Invitation to Join CC Global Network; Notice of Termination of MOU or Affiliate Agreement

Institutional Member.

Φιλικά,

Dear Despina and Alexandros,

Our Global Network emerged in the earliest days of Creative Commons,
initially with a strong focus on porting the licenses to account for local
copyright laws. Over time, the work within the network expanded to address
not only the legal work but also adoption, community outreach, and most
recently, advocacy and policy work on topics including copyright reform,
open education, open access, GLAM and more. While our original structure
served Creative Commons and its young community well, it has struggled to
keep pace and to include many new voices on which CC will rely as it
matures as a leader in the internet era where sharing, interoperability,
policies, advocacy, and adoption are all necessary to the success of our
mission.

After more than 15 years under the current structure, it has become clear
that our network must be re-designed to grow and enhance our global impact.
In arriving at this decision, we commissioned research, we conducted open
and extensive consultations with the current network and potential new
participants, and we worked together with affiliates from around the world
to create a new Global Network Strategy
<https://creativecommons.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/GlobalNetworkStrategy-Final.pdf>.
We finalized this strategy at the 2017 Global Summit in Toronto.

As of January 15th, 2018, we have started to implement this new strategy.
This affects you (if you have an individual affiliate agreement or MOU) or
your institution or organization if it has an institutional affiliate
agreement or MOU, and your relationship with Creative Commons. We are
hopeful that you will join us and embrace this new model and be part of it.

*What this means for you and your organization*

The affiliate program in its current form is ending. By this written
communication, Creative Commons is giving you official notice that your
individual or organizational Affiliate Agreement or Memorandum of
Understanding is being terminated by Creative Commons effective as of April
13, 2018, unless otherwise arranged in writing in advance of that date.

We encourage both you, your affiliate team, and your organization to
participate in the new Global Network by joining as an Individual Member
<https://network.creativecommons.org/sign-up/individual/> (you and your
affiliate team colleagues) or an Institutional Member (your organization)
in advance of the final termination date of April 13, 2018. We intend to
make this transition as easy as possible, with the utmost respect for your
contributions to date. We hope to continue to strengthen our cooperation
with all CC affiliates and other organizations with any relationship with
CC through a transition from affiliate status to Institutional Member or
Individual Member status. Here you can learn about becoming an
Institutional Member
<https://github.com/creativecommons/global-network-strategy/blob/master/docs/Guide_to_becoming_an_institutional_member.md>.
And here you can start your application
<https://network.creativecommons.org/sign-up/institution/>. You can also
check our last blog post about the process
<https://creativecommons.org/2018/02/23/global-network/>.

If you need any help, or if you need a formal signed letter, just reach out
directly. We are very excited about what we will achieve together in the
future as a global network.

Sincerely,
Claudio Ruiz
