Quick (!) summary of feedback submitted/planned

There was agreement among the participants that the workshop “Open Source
beyond 2020” was a success, both in terms of topics discussed and
execution.

The point was made that this is a first step in the context of the new
Commission, and it will be followed by reports, studies and more workshops.

It was also raised that we need to move towards an agreed foundation of
knowledge and assumptions, from which we can start discussing policy steps
forward.

Q&A with DG Connect

6 December: Deadline if you want your feedback to be included in the
workshop report

Mid to end January: Longer input or position papers that can be handed over
to the Commissioner around the time of the internal handover of the WS
report.

What to include/focus on:

Argued policy actions that are in the remit of the Commission.

The ultimate goal of the EC is to increase opportunities and welfare of the
citizens of Europe. This should be kept in mind generally, when proposing
policy actions.

Collaboration on feedback

(From Stuart’s follow-up email)

During the debrief call today, we agreed to work collaboratively on a
response to the commission.

The first target is an outline of issues and short summary for inclusion in
the Commission report on the workshop and the Commission plan to publish
January 2020.

Second is a fuller response to be created by our community which the
Commission would like to circulate with their report in January 2020.

The key topics are being outlined on a shared document here:
https://codimd-ofe.projects.opusvl.com/DAfxVOOGQVGP9aqN35henQ#

Each topic has a sub-page assigned where the details can be expanded.

Note that details have been added to the main list and this will be moved
to the sub-pages.

Our first priority is to agree what the themes or subjects are to be
outlined in the response required next week - then these can be expanded
on. However feel free to share thoughts on any topic in the sub pages - we
can then summarise as required.

All the best,

Astor
