Dear Mr. Andreas and Mr. Christos, My name is Nektarios Tsimpourakis Pavlakos, and I am a top-performing undergraduate student at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). I am writing to express my strong interest in the two projects posted by OpenCouncil for Google Summer of Code 2026, through the GFOSS (ΕΕΛΛΑΚ) organization. I have been following OpenCouncil's work for some time and deeply admire your commitment to transparency and civic engagement, which aligns perfectly with my belief that informatics should bridge the gap between the state and its citizens. This shared vision drives my undergraduate thesis "Interactive System for Detection, Geospatial Visualization, and Semantic Analysis of Social Reactions in Greece" supervised by Professor Maria Roussou. By fostering social awareness and accountability, my research reflects our common goal of using technology as a force for democratic progress. Beyond our shared values, I believe my technical background makes me a highly qualified candidate who is eager to contribute and continue learning within your team: - Python, ML, PyTorch/TensorFlow & SQL: Achieved top grades in AI and Database courses, with practical experience from the projects https://github.com/NektariosTP/UC-Berkeley-CS188-Pacman-Project and https://github.com/NektariosTP/nlp-twitter-sentiment-analysis. - Data Extraction & Visualization: Currently gaining hands-on experience in data extraction and geospatial visualization through my ongoing thesis. I am highly motivated to master and apply this growing expertise to OpenCouncil's challenges. - Full-stack Web Development: Extensive experience with Next.js/React, evidenced by live projects (axiongym.gr, vayancy.gr) and academically awarded work (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnBboW3WAAI). - Open Source: Active contributor to the https://agentic-project-management.dev/ open source project. I am particularly excited about the prospect of applying these skills to your projects while gaining new insights from your team's expertise. I intend to begin contributing to your codebase before the proposal submission period to familiarize myself with the development environment. While I am interested in both projects, I am leaning more toward the "Municipal Budget and Technical Program Visualization Tool" as I have experience in developing standalone visualization tools. My first step will be to thoroughly review your contributing guidelines. In the meantime, it would be very helpful for me to know the following: 1. As this is a standalone tool, what is the preferred architectural approach or technology stack you envision for it? 2. What specific milestones or qualities do you prioritize when evaluating a GSoC proposal for a new tool like this, and what steps can I take right now to best align my efforts with the project's goals? Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to the possibility of contributing through the project. Sincerely, Nektarios Tsimpourakis Pavlakos
