Regional Government of Valencia has now launched the implementation
phase of LLIUREX, a new complete Free and Open Source Software package
for schools. The Ministries of Education, Culture and Sport of the
Valencian Autonomous Community of Spain officially presented LLIUREX
last March 2004.<o:p></o:p></span>

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;">The project will now
start its full development with the implementation of basic and
educational contents tools.<o:p></o:p></span>

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;">The
Conselleria de Cultura, Educación y Deporte (the Valencian Ministry for
Culture, Education and Sport) listed the following points as the main
advantages to adopt LLIUREX:<o:p></o:p></span>

LLIUREX is the first GNU/Linux distribution available in Valenciano and
Spanish/Castellano, and this is crucial in a product aimed at

of costs. Being based on open standards, LLIUREX will reduce costs in
the education sector and will enable schools to provide innovative
educational services to pupils at lower costs. In the view of the
Conselleria de Cultura, this will facilitate a quick adoption of
LLIUREX by public schools in the <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Valencia</st1:place></st1:country-region> region<o:p></o:p></span>

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;">In
May 2004, the first congress organized in Valencia on Open Source
Software had been the occasion to confirm the commitment of the
Regional govern to launch the LLIUREX project and to increase the
inclusion of ICT in the heart of the educational system and at the same
time to reduce the costs of licensing supported so far (180 euros for
each PC with proprietary software packages until now).<o:p></o:p></span>
