fyi... To give them their due, this story is from the BBC themselves. The BBC are rolling out a new playback service. You can watch shows for 30 days after broadcast. There is a catch though. It only works on windows. The BBC is claiming to be working on a mac version, but why bother using such a player. The Open Source Consortium (OSC) has lodged a complaint with the European Commission who may investigate. The BBC main defense is DRM. I kid you not. By using the Microsoft player they can ensure the content is deleted after 30 days. The BBC should really know better. Record companies are finally seeing that DRM is an over the top annoyance compared to what a copyright owner is trying to achieve. ComputerWorld is reporting that that Vista's slow uptake probably has a lot to do with customer concerns with Vista's DRM features (a misnomer if ever there was one). The proof is in the pudding.EMI's digital sales have sky rocketed since they offer DRM free tracks on iTunes. ... http://doncrowley.blogspot.com/2007/06/european-commission-going-after-bbc.html -- ________________________________________ http://users.ntua.gr/karounos/ - skype: karounos
