I'm not sure I understood the question ("public profile pages" ?!?).
As I've written before, whether everything is visible without login
may be a configuration parameter.
in general, you want all the information to be accessible
(but not modifiable, obviously).
I also do not understand the "separate catalog for complex components" bit...
